Sumitomo Electric is pleased to announce the manufacturing achievement of 180A critical current at 77K using DI-BSCCO wire. This manufacturing milestone is a result of our continued efforts to meet the market demand for higher performing, lower cost superconducting wires.
Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. (SEI), a leading global supplier of high temperature superconducting wires recently achieved a world record manufacturing milestone of 180A critical current performance (Ic) in long length wires. This milestone surpasses our previous high of 150A Ic and follows our Jan 2006 announcement that 200A Ic had been achieved in our research and development efforts. The 20% improved value from 150A to 180A was transitioned to manufacturing in little over 1-year, as an indication that SEI's continued commitment to improve performance and to lower costs for DI-BSCCO wire applications.
Energy efficient DI-BSCCO wires are suitable for use in a variety of applications including cables, transformers, motors, generators, magnets and other applications where high electrical quality and energy efficiency are desired. Limited quantities are available now with mass production scheduled for end of June 2007.
