High Temperature Up-rating Conductors |
| In the electrical power industry, deregulation, challenging right-of-way (ROW) issues and increased power demand have simultaneously created situations where increased transmission line capacity is required when existing overhead lines are already at or near capacity. Compounding this problem is the frequent need to upgrade transmission towers also at capacity. Sumitomo Electric U.S.A Inc (SEUSA) has a solution for this dilemma through our High Temperature Up-rating Conductors. SEUSA is the exclusive supplier for J-Power System's High Temperature Up-rating conductors for overhead transmission lines in the U.S. and Canada. |

J-Power Systems Up-rating Conductors
J-Power System
has developed two unique up-rating conductors. They are the Gap
type and Invar type conductor.
More than 5,800km (3,600 miles) of J-Power System Up-rating
conductors have been adopted in commercial overhead T/L in Japan,
Middle East, South East Asia and Europe for the past 30 years. The
Up-rating Conductor is especially useful in grid locations where heavy
wind, ice accumulation, or rolling terrain is a concern.
<Gap
Type> -- supply record as of today : more
than 2,000 conductor miles (3,200km) since1971.
The Gap type conductor has a unique structure, which is described
below. The aluminum wires in the internal layer, closest to the core,
has a trapezoidal cross section which creates a gap between the steel
core and the aluminum layers. This gap is filled with an engineered
material, suitable for operation at temperatures exceeding 200 degree
C.

<Invar
Type> -- supply record as of today
: more than 2,300 conductor miles (3,700km) since 1984.
The main differential characteristic in relation to the conventional
ACSR conductor is that its core is made of High strength Invar
alloy wire, instead of conventional steel wire. Invar wire is
a material composed of an alloy of steel and 36-36% nickel,
whose most important property is the fact that it has a linear expansion
coefficient practically invariable with heat. |
