Submarine Power Cable |
|
Sumitomo Electric U.S.A Inc (SEUSA) supplies J-Power Systems's AC and DC submarine cables from 33kV to 500kV in the U.S., Canada and Central/South America. We can also supply submarine cables with various features such as PPLP insulation, composite with fiber optics and etc. as well as engineering services in the design, installation, splicing, termination, testing, commissioning and maintenance of submarine cables.
AC/DC Submarine Cable
Sumitomo Electric has been pioneering and leading the world in the field of submarine power cables since 1920's. As of 1997, the volume of submarine cables manufactured and installed by SEI all over the world totals approx. 1200km ( 750k.miles ). In 1998 SEI installed the world's highest system voltage (500kV) and largest conductor size of 3,000 sq.mm (5,920KCM) for HVDC submarine cable in Japan.

Optical Fiber Composite Submarine Cable
Sumitomo Electric developed optical fiber-incorporated submarine cable and applied for the first time to a DC 250kV submarine cable project in Japan in 1992. Since then, SEI and J-Power Systems have supplied the composite cable in various projects in the world.
Incorporated optic fibers can be used for public communication, monitoring the condition of submarine cables such as external damage, etc. With Op-thermo, a fiber-optic distributed temperature sensing system, the composite cable can be used to measure the cable temperature continuously and longitudinally.

Engineering Services
J-Power Systems has its own engineering division which has been providing engineering services as EPC contractor in submarine cable projects in Japan and overseas countries for the past 50 years. J-Power System's own splicing technicians assure the best splicing quality.
In addition, since embedding operation is very vital in the submarine cable installation, J-Power Systems has developed its own simultaneous laying and embedding machines.
The latest machine named "Whale", a plow-type machine with high-pressure water jet (1.5Mpa), can simultaneously lay and embed 8 inch diameter cable to the depth of 10ft under seabed with the average speed of 12.5 miles per day at the depth of 250ft water. It was employed for the Kii-Channel DC500kV trunk-line project in Japan and contributed the project's on-time completion in 1998.
J-Power Systems also has its own high-pressure water jet (1.5 & 20Mpa) embedding machine for simultaneously laying and embedding 3 cables in one operation to the depth of 12ft under seabed. It was deployed Hong Kong - Lamma 275kV project in 1986.
