Sumitomo Electric U.S.A Inc (SEUSA) supplies J-Power System's EHV XLPE cables from 66kV to 500kV and EHV SCOF (Self-contained Oil-filled) cables from 66kV to 800kV in the U.S., Canada and Central/South America. We can also supply cables with various features such as low loss Polypropylene Laminated Paper (PPLP) insulation, composite with fiber optics and etc. as well as engineering services in the design, installation, splicing, termination, testing, commissioning and maintenance of EHV cables.

XLPE Solid Dielectric Power Cable
Since 1979 Sumitomo Electric Industries (SEI has supplied and installed more than 1700km(1062K.mile) of EHV XLPE cables from 100kV to 500kV in Japan and foreign countries. SEI has supplied 500kV XLPE cable to the world longest service line of Tokyo Electric Power Company since 1995, which was commissioned in the year 2000.

J-Power System's latest plant with vertical continuous vulcanizer (VCV) line at its Osaka works assures super-fine quality of EHV XLPE insulation such as the contaminant size of less than 50 microns in XLPE insulation. Its huge UHV testing hall with a 2100kV A.C transformer, 6000kV impulse generator and a 2500kV D.C generator can carry out various tests required for the quality assurance of J-Power System's EHV XLPE cables.

Self Contained Oil-filled Power Cable
Since 1961 Sumitomo Electric has supplied and installed a great number of O.F cables up to 800kV in Japan and foreign countries. In the mid 70's Sumitomo Electric supplied 20km (12.5 miles) of 525kV SCOF cable to the U.S Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) for its Grand Coulee Dam project. The cable system was installed and taken over by USBR in November 1977.
SCOF cables are widely used in submarine cable applications (see Submarine Cable) as well as bridge and vertical shaft applications.

Polypropylene Laminated Paper
J-Power Systems has developed a new low-loss paper called Polypropylene Laminated Paper (PPLP) for EHV SCOF cable. PPLP shows higher dielectric strength and lower loss than the conventional Kraft paper. Since the first 275kV PPLP cable was put into commercial operation in 1980, many PPLP cables have been used in 154-500kV transmission lines.

Engineering Service
J-Power Systems has its own engineering division which has been providing engineering services as EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction) contractor in EHV cable projects in Japan and overseas countries for the past 50 years. J-Power System's own splicing technicians assure the best splicing and termination quality.
